Charles Welsh left a message on December 30, 2009:
Russell was one of a kind. He would always look out for us young guys when he worked at Kingsdown Inc. We took many trips to Dover and Richmond to watch the NASCAR rasces. While we were enjoying ourselves, Russell would be looking out for us. We always talked about getting the crew together for one more trip. My son always talked about Mr. Vance when he attended Stonewall Elementary School. He would always say that Mr. Vance talked to us kids today and if we needed anything we would always go to Mr. Vance. Russell will surely be missed, because you just don't find friends like him.

Robert Glover left a message on December 30, 2009:
Our pathes crossed in the early 1960's when we were both interested in local stock car racing. Russell was always upbeat and a pleasure to be around. Although I haven't seen him in decades I've never forgotten him, such was his pleasant and engaging presonality.. Bob Glover
