Russell L. Nicholson, Sr.

        Russell Lee “Poppie” Nicholson, Sr., 72, of Front Royal, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 14, 2014, in Winchester Medical Center.

        Mr. Nicholson was born in 1941, in Madison County, Virginia, the son of the late James L. and Ethel M. Nicholson.  He was a lineman for Fixed Base Operations at Dulles International Airport, retiring after 22 years of service. Mr. Nicholson enjoyed going to the beach with his family, loved his grandchildren and watching them play sports.

        He married Sheila Anne Saffell on February 26, 1962, in Hagerstown, Maryland.  She preceded him in death on March 26, 2010.

        Surviving are two sons, Rusty L. Nicholson and wife, Alice, of Front Royal, Shane Toron Nicholson and wife, Daun, of Strasburg; grandchildren, Jonathon Russell Nicholson, Andrew Lee Nicholson, Seth Toron Nicholson, Connor Michael Nicholson, and Kyle and Sarah Wilson; sister, Doris A. Vest, of Flint Hill; and brother, Elvis Nicholson and wife, Shirley, of Front Royal.

        Twin daughters, Danika and Robin Nicholson, sister, Linda F. Sowers and brother-in-law, Grady Vest, preceded him in death.

        The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00-2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel on 1260 Front Royal Pike, Winchester.

        A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Pastor Dan Rogers officiating.  Private Interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal, Virginia.
