Russell Herbert Shifflett, 83, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Monday, May 15, 2017, at his home. His final days were spent on the land he cherished, surrounded by his loving family and the many friends whose lives he touched.
Mr. Shifflett was born in 1933 in Frederick County, Virginia, the son of the late Claude E. and Rhoda L. Shifflett. He was a self-employed carpenter and farmer who enjoyed fishing, hunting and metal detecting, and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, having served during the Korean Conflict.
Russell married June (Luttrell) Shifflett on April 18, 1953 in Winchester, Virginia. They built a life together on a farm in Frederick County where their ever-expanding circle of family and friends continue to gather to this day. Russell loved his family deeply and treasured his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving with his beloved wife of 64 years are daughters, Karen Cowherd (Robin) of Norfolk, Virginia, Donna Howard (Robert) of Holiday, Florida, and Laura Shifflett of Winchester, Virginia; sons, Larry Shifflett (Teresa, deceased) and Allen Shifflett both of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Michael Myers, Jessica Burnham, Diron Corrigan, Erin Swemba, Sarah Cowherd, Keith Shifflett, Russell Shifflett, Anna Shifflett, Mary Shifflett, Bethany Shifflett, Jennifer Gardiner, Melissa Rutherford, and James DeHaven, Jr.; thirteen great grandchildren; sisters, Winifred Baylis of Winchester, Virginia, Kathryn Snapp of Winchester, Virginia and Emogene Shifflett of Unger, West Virginia; and brother, Coddie Shifflett of Henry, Mississippi.
Mr. Shifflett was preceded in death by his brother, Warren Shifflett and beloved daughter-in-law, Teresa Shifflett.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Burial services will be private.
