Russell Eugene “Gene” Kidwell, Jr., 89, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Kidwell was born in 1928 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Laura and Russell Kidwell, Sr. He was a graduate of Fairfax High School and a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean conflict. Mr. Kidwell retired from the United States Department of Transportation/Federal Highway Administration after 38 years of service. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and was a member of Manassas Baptist Church. A loving husband, father, and brother that will be missed.
He married Sophie Slusher Kidwell on October 3, 1952 in Manassas, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife of 65 years is a daughter, Paula Rae Kidwell and a son, Russell E. Kidwell, III and his wife, Trish; brother, Edward Kidwell and wife, Pam; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kidwell was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Kidwell Ford.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service at 7:30 pm. Interment will be Thursday at 12 pm in Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, Virginia.
