Ronald L. Russell
Ronald Lewis Russell, 64, of Inwood, West Virginia, died Friday, March 7, 2014, in WinchesterMedicalCenter.
Mr. Russell was born in 1949, in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Mary P. Russell and the late Ralph E. Russell. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the United States Army. He was honored to have served his country and supported other veterans by donating to various causes such as the Wounded Warriors Project. Ron was passionate about the treatment of veterans and was proud that the awareness is much greater now than when he returned home from Vietnam.
After his military service Ron returned to Vietnam, working for the US Department of State. He evacuated out just prior to the fall of Saigon in 1975. He worked as a Human Resources Officer with the Department of Defense at Fort Meade, Maryland, retiring after 35 years.
He married Mary Ann of Billings, Montana on May 14, 1976, in Silver Spring, Maryland. Ron enjoyed hiking, camping, hunting, traveling and anything involving his love of the woods. He followed professional football as well as the MLB and his beloved Baltimore Orioles.
Ron is survived by his mother, of Glen Burnie, Maryland, his wife, daughter Ronda Russell of Houston, Texas; son, Roger Russell of Pasco, Washington; brother, Robert Russell of Baltimore, Maryland; and sister Bonny Evans of Odenton, Maryland.
All services with Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, will be private.
