Esteban Zamudio left a message on December 9, 2021:
Ron Kelly was a dear friend of mine, who always had the most sincere, thoughtful and kind advice for those who need it, a person of good values with faultless ethics and morals, humble but with a countless of feats and deeds unknown to many, a model to follow , a soldier with plenty of wisdom and experience, a leader to go after him blindly, his friendship will be sorely missed and never forgotten, his kind words will remain in our thoughts, now his absence may be physical, but in our hearts always will be remembered with great pride of having had him as a family member and friend, his memory will pass for generations to come and his soul will be blessed by the grace of God.

This is very sad news. Ron was a truly good man, he always treated me with respect. My deepest sympathies to Maria and Ron’s family.
Dennis Pluchinsky left a message on December 5, 2021:
I knew Ron at the State Department and when he was at IBM. When I retired from the State Department, I worked for Ron for several years. In his retirement, I kept in touch with him. We both shared a love for history, international affairs, intelligence analysis, and writing. I know of no set of English-language words that could accurately Ron. Anything I could write would pale in comparison to the person he actually was - intelligent, studious, inquisitive, sensitive, funny, well-traveled, and always looking for new challenges. The best I can do is - he was a good friend, a good man, and a good American who served his country in time of war and peace, and I will miss him.
Keith Gwyn left a message on December 5, 2021:
Ron and I were Diplomatic Security colleagues and friends. Special Agents in the Washington Field Office and served on the protective detail for Secretary of State William Rogers. Ron was the RSO in Bangkok while I was the RSO in Vientiane. Our families vacationed together at Pattaya Beach, Thailand. One one occasion the SecState's plane had a refueling stop at Mildenhall, England. Ron and I held up departure of the plane as we were having a discussion somewhere in the terminal. building. Word was sent to us from the Secretary: "See if Gwyn and Kelly are ready to depart". My reading of Ron's obituary disclosed a few things he never shared with me, i.e.: his time in Korea and being wounded. Ron was a very private person - believe I was one of the few who knew him well. On our trips to San Clemente, CA (Pres. Nixon's "Western White House"), Ron taught me basic karate moves. Ron served our country admirably and there was no one in the State Department in whom I had greater respect. May God rest his soul. Sincerely, Keith M. Gwyn Frederick, MD
