Ronald Dale Smith, 76, of Winchester, VA, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Ron was born in 1947 in Winter Haven, FL, the son of the late Adrian and Mildred Smith. He received his associate degree in architecture from Polk County Community College and went on to spend his career as a draftsman, retiring from Shockey in the engineering department. Ron was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints – Winchester Ward. He was high councilman for many years within his church and second councilman for the Bishopric in the Winter Haven, FL Ward.
Ron played the clarinet and played in a band in his younger years in college. He was a police officer in Florida in the late 70s, early 80s for the Polk County Sheriff’s Department. Ron was very proud of the fact that he worked on the Washington Nationals Stadium, the Baltimore Orioles stadium, and the stadium for the Baltimore Ravens. He also worked on the design of the Timbrook Judicial Center in Winchester. He designed parking garages around the Winchester area, and many other buildings, structures, and homes across the United States. Ron was also an avid Miami Dolphins fan and enjoyed watching television shows and western movies.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, whom he married on May 10, 2003; children, Jan Rupp (Tim) of Cross Junction, VA, Kellie Smith of Falls Church, VA, Michael “Mickey” Smith (Rebecca) of Augusta, WV; 19 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, Ron is preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Y. Smith.
