Ronald D. Miller, Sr.
Ronald Delano “Ron” Miller, Sr., age 72, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, November 8, 2013, at Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center. Mr. Miller was born in 1941 in West Virginia, the son of the late Dailey W. and Dolly Miller. He was a Winchester Police Officer, retiring in 1992 from the Winchester Police Department. He was a veteran, having served with the United States Army. He was a member of Macedonia United Methodist church and had attended James Wood High School. Mr. Miller was a member of the Elks Club, the Winchester Moose Club, Bogeys, and the Four Corners Club. He loved to play scratch-off tickets and slot machines. Ron loved his children, grandchildren, and his wife, and he loved to feed the squirrels.
He married Betty Miller on May 22, 1997 in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Michelle Shockey of Strasburg, Virginia; son, Ronald D. Miller, Jr. and girlfriend, Sharon Ray of Winchester, Virginia; grandchildren, Renee Shockey and Chance Kidwell, both of Strasburg, Virginia; cousins, Helen, Mildred, and Peanut; and his special childhood friend, Leonard Slonaker of Stephens City, Virginia. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores Brill and Betty Wilkins and brother, Warren Parker.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Thursday, November 14, 2013, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Reverend Kenneth Patrick officiating. Interment will be in Macedonia Church Cemetery, with military honors being afforded by VFW Post # 2123.
Serving as pallbearers will be Leonard Slonaker, Ricky Linaweaver, Bill VanHorn, Jimmy Swisher, Chance Kidwell, Charlie Funk, and Clara Jackson.
