Robert “Bob” William Pierce
Robert “Bob” William Pierce, 80, of Winchester, Virginia, died Sunday, September 14, 2014, at his home.
Mr. Pierce was born in 1934, in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Thurman W. and Viola R. Pierce. He was a graduate of John Handley High School, class of 1953. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He was a salesman for BK Office Supply, having retired after 30 years of service. Bob was an active community member beginning with the Jaycees in 1956. He served as past president for the Kiwanis Club of Winchester where he was a member for over 45 years. He was also past president of the Izaak Walton League. Bob was a dedicated member and served as an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church as well as participating with the McFadden Bible Class. He will forever be remembered for his dedication to others and his community. He volunteered his time at the Winchester Medical Center gift shop, Free Medical Clinic of the Shenandoah Valley, Habitat for Humanity, Winchester Senior Center and the Adult Care Center. Bob was a one of kind individual whose spirit will live on in so many of the people and lives he has touched through his service to others. He was a man of faith and honor and cared deeply for his family and friends.
Bob loved antique cars. He was a founding member and past president of the Shenandoah Region Antique Automobile Club of America. In his lifetime of passion for automobiles, he owned more than 100 cars.
Mr. Pierce married Shirley Ann Hulver on January 9, 1955, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Karen Pierce Anderson and husband, Fred, of Winchester, Virginia, Kelly Pierce Wilkins, and husband, Ronald, of Stephens City, Virginia; a son, Todd Pierce and wife, Abbe, of Stephens City, Virginia, three grandchildren, Lisa Pierce and her fiancé, Jim Cross, Emily Myers and her husband, Josh and David Wilkins, one great-granddaughter, Claire Riley Cross; a sister, Yvonne Butler Woody of Winchester, Virginia, as well as many lifelong friends.
Mr. Pierce was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Riley Smallwood.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 19, 2014, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Dr. Richard Reifsnyder officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Hebron Cemetery.
