Robert William “Bobby” Carter of Stephenson, Virginia, died Tuesday, August 6, 2013, in Spring Arbor Assisted Living Facility, Winchester, Virginia.
Mr. Carter was born in 1933, in Clarke County, Virginia, the son of the late Edith Carter. As a teenager Bobby arranged his first loan at the age of 15 to build his family’s original home. He continued throughout the years constructing many homes, developing land and enjoyed the real estate market. He spent 11 years as a cattle farmer and was employed and retired from The B&O Railroad as a trackman. Some of his favorite things were hunting, fishing, raising cattle, socializing, bartering, dealing and negotiating of which poker was one of his best skill sets.
He married Alice Faye Burleson on August 15, 1959, in Maryland.
Surviving with his wife is his daughter, Alicia “Lisa” Carter-Menefee of Washington, D.C.; and granddaughter, Lauren Rose Menefee of Stephenson, Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Billy Carter, Helen Dodson, Anna Mary Russell, Reva Strosnider, Charles Carter, Richard Carter and Juney Carter.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Valley Bible Church, 578 Double Church Road, Stephens City, Virginia, with Pastor Calvin Lowder officiating. A private family committal ceremony will be on the Carter Farm at a later date.
