My good friend of 28 years, Bruce Shelton, reached out to me yesterday to inform me that his Dad, Bob, had passed away. Back in the 1990’s, I was Crew Chief for Dennis Dubois who competed in GT Pinto. I got to know and become friends with Bruce, Debbi, Anne and Bob. When I went for my Competition License, I rented a GT Pinto from Bruce. He, Bob and Debbie were my Crew for Driver’s School and were there to support me during the weekend. I drove Dennis’ GTP at certain race events when he did not and actually compete against Bob and Bruce (not very well I might add). When Dennis sold the car after the 1996 season, to Bruce no less, we continued our friendship. I crewed for Bruce and Bob during many of the 12 Hours At The Point and select sprint race events when I could get down to Summit Point. I try, to this day, to crew for Bruce at least one event a year at Summit Point and whenever he can make it to NJMP. Having said all of that, it was very, very sad to hear that Bob had passed away. I was glad I got to spend some time with him a couple of years ago at Summit Point when he was still able to come out to see Bruce race. I will cherish the time we spent talking and getting caught up. There are not enough words to describe how wonderful a man Bob was. A true gentleman, a loving Husband and Father and one hell of a race car driver. His service to our country and the Winchester Police Department, just those facts alone, tells anyone what a wonderful person he was. Anytime Dennis and I came down to Summit Point for a race, if we needed help with anything at all, you name it, Bob and Bruce were always there to help in any way that they could. There was one weekend, I don’t remember when, Bruce’s car blew an engine. Dennis and I went over to the shop in Winchester to help Bruce and Bob pull the engine and put a new one in. Dennis worked mostly with Bruce and I worked with Bob. All I can tell you, at whatever age Bob was at the time, I had trouble keeping up with his pace while he worked on the car, in terms of being a second pair of hands for him, handing him the tools he needed, etc. He literally wore me out! I will always have fond memories of Bob, his friendship, help, the time we spent together at the track, the true gentleman that he was as how much he was a loving Husband and Father. He will be missed and may he Rest In Peace. Diane & Mark Korey, Middlesex, NJ
