Robert N. “Bobby” Denekas, Sr., 78, of Linden, Virginia passed away Monday, January 7, 2019, at home with his wife by his side.
Mr. Denekas was born in 1940 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late William and Helen Denekas. He was an automobile mechanic, a Virginia State Inspector, and drove for AAA for many years. He loved cars, especially models from the 1950’s and 60’s, and enjoyed going to car shows, but also enjoyed riding motorcycles. Mr. Denekas possessed a strong faith in God and enjoyed reading his Bible. He was a staunch Republican, who would always debate politics if given the chance, and watch FOX News 24/7. Mr. Denekas was a member of the NRA, liked country music and Elvis music. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing his guitar, and his movie idol was Marilyn Monroe. Of all the “things” in life he enjoyed, nothing gave him greater pleasure than spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He married Beverly Crawford on April 27, 1989 in Falls Church, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are daughters, Elena J. Shillingburg (Allen), Joann M. Wahl (James), Eva M. Denekas, and Charlotte C. Denekas; sons, Robert N Denekas, Jr. (Tamela), William B. Denekas, and George E. Denekas (Shannon); grandchildren, Christina, Robbie, III, Justin, Timothy, Jennifer, Rebecca, Christopher, Chad, Roselyn, Amanda, Alicia, Jacob, Alan, Stephen, Crystal, Dante, and Isabelle; great grandchildren, Kaylyn, Briana, Timothy, Tyler, Braden, Bryce, Nathan, McKenzie, Kayleigh, Kirsten, Liam, Preston, Veronica, London, Dejon, Aliah, Jordan, Marcus, Justice, Amihya, Isaiah, Jayce, and Arianna; step-children, Dina A. Holt (Paul), William F. Cole, Keith N. Cole (Connie); step-grandchildren, Timothy, Jeffrey, Sarah, Valerie, and Zachary; sister, Karen Lippard; brother, William A. Denekas; and niece and nephew, Katharine and Jeffrey.
Mr. Denekas was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Kitty L. Cole; and brothers, Mike and Butch Lippard.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 am to 11 am on Thursday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with a memorial service to follow at 11 am with Pastor Russell Shillingburg officiating. A reception will follow the service at Omps Reception Center, South Chapel. Interment will be private.
