Robert (“Bob”) Lee Bishop, 86, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Saturday, February 16, 2019. Mr. Bishop was born December 15, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York and is the son of the late Ira Edward Bishop, II and Dorothy Amelia (Blackburn) Bishop.
He is a graduate of Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, NJ, and the RCA Electronic Institute and Signal Corps Radar School in Fort Monmouth, NJ.
Mr. Bishop served in the United States Army Signal Corps and is a Korean War Veteran.
During his career, Mr. Bishop was employed by O’Sullivan Corporation, Kahn-Ellert Electronics, and Stinson Electronics, and was a self-employed new residential construction builder.
He married June Marie (Helsley) Bishop November 23, 1952 in Hagerstown, MD. He was friend to everyone he met and enjoyed spending time with his family & friends, listening to classic bluegrass and country music, the sounds of the big bands, watching the New York Yankees and football, and he researched American and World History.
He was a motorcycle enthusiast and adventurist who toured throughout the U.S. and Canada with his wife, and they traveled together to Greece, England, Martinique, Puerto Rico, Spain, Mexico, Hawaii, and the Isle of Mallorca.
During his lifetime he resided in Tombstone, AZ and Frisco, TX.
He was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge for many years.
Surviving are his daughters, Kathryn L. Jennings (Mark) of Virginia Beach, VA, Sharon M. Bishop-Elliott (Michael) of Lakewood Village, TX; and a son, Jeffrey J. Bishop (Kathy) of Winchester, VA; Grandchildren, Jennifer L. Gerdau (Bryan), Benjamin T. Bishop (Sophie), Samantha L. Elliott, and Thomas “Cameron” Jennings; Great Grandchildren, Landon Gerdau, Aubrey Bishop, and Taylor Lynn Gerdau; a Sister, Joyce Ann DeHaven (Talbert), and Brothers, Bruce Bishop (JoAnn), and Gregory Allen Bishop.
Mr. Bishop was preceded in death by his loving wife, June M. (Helsley) Bishop; a Daughter, Karen Marie Bishop; Brothers, George Ira Bishop, and Ira Edward Bishop, III, and a Sister, Doris Isabelle Martin.
Visitation will be Friday, February 22, 2019, from 6-8pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:30 am on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Pastor Chuck Davis and Pastor Charlie Estep officiating. Interment will be in Ebenezer Church Cemetery, Gore, Virginia.
