Robert C. McDonald
Robert (Rob) Clifton McDonald, 65, of Stephens City, Virginia died Tuesday, September 25, 2012 in the Blue Ridge Hospice Residential Center after a six-year battle with cancer.
Rob was born August 29, 1947, in Roanoke, Virginia, the son of Ward McDonald of St. Augustine, FL, and the late Vera Patteson Hamlin. He married Patricia Vaught McDonald on May 6, 1983, in Roanoke, Virginia.
Rob held numerous positions with O’Sullivan, Automotive Industries, and Lear Corporation in Winchester, VA. His career with Lear Corporation in Winchester led to a promotion in 1996 to General Manger of the Lebanon, VA Plant, and he and Pat moved to Abingdon, VA. He retired from Lear in November 2000. After a few years of traveling as a consultant, Rob then started a new career as a Realtor and worked with his wife, Pat, at Callebs Realty in Abingdon, VA until his cancer diagnosis in 2006. In 2009, they returned to Stephens City, VA to be close to family.
Rob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who dearly loved his wife, children, and most especially his grandchildren.
Surviving with his wife and his father are his daughters, Jennifer M. Brecht and husband, Peter, of Charlottesville, VA; Meredith M. Luther and husband, Andrew, of Kensington, Maryland; stepson, Terry N. Witt and wife, Christina, of Stephens City, VA; four grandchildren: Grace Elizabeth Brecht, Eleanor Meredith Brecht, William Charles Witt, and Andrew Ryan Luther. Also surviving are his two sisters, Carol White of Roanoke, VA, and Kathy Allred and husband, Curtis, also of Roanoke, and a step-brother, Denny Hamlin and wife, Mary Lou,of Davidson, NC.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 29, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM led by Pastor Phillip Bishop.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Rob’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
