Robert Carlton “Bobby” Dyke, 88 of Stephenson passed away peacefully Friday, September 4 at his home and beloved farm.
Bobby was born October 7, 1937, in Frederick County, VA. The son of the late Herman and Dorothy Dyke. Bobby was a backhoe operator for Shockey & Sons Construction and finished his career with Perry Engineering. The word “retirement” was not in Bobby’s vocabulary. He continued to farm up until shifting duties to care for his wife Alcesta “Benny” Dyke, who preceded him in death in 2023. Bobby enjoyed many activities over the course of his life. He was an avid horseman and western style rider. His palomino’s brought him much joy during seasonal trail rides with family and friends. His herd of charolais cattle brought him a deep sense of pride as a farmer. In the last few years, he spent most mornings and afternoons checking on his special friends, the “barn cats.” He enjoyed time with his two daughters, Shelvy Miller Largent (deceased) and Rhonda Gail Barton of Stephens City, VA as well as his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Everyone who knew him, knew his kindness, joy, happiness, strength, humility, hardworking grit, and stubbornness. He was a friend and helper to all he met or encountered.
Bobby is survived by his daughter, Rhonda “Gail” Barton (John Barton) of Stephens City, two sisters, Hilda Marie Gibson of Lake Mary, FL, Shirley “Maxine” Morgan of Winchester, son-in-law, Max Largent of Winchester and grandchildren, Tanis Largent Fellman, Jason Largent, Kara Keiter, Dustin Largent, Lauren Barton, and Kevin Barton. Bobby is preceded in death by his wife, Alcesta Racey Dyke, daughter, Shelvy Miller Largent, his parents, Herman, and Dorothy Wisecarver Dyke, three brothers, Herman “Ashby” Dyke, Harold Edward “Ted” Dyke, Daniel Franklin “Dan” Dyke, and three sisters, Mary Brooke “Brookie” Dyke, Anna Frances Fincham, and Janice “Jenny” Vorous.
The family will miss Granddaddy Bobby’s “How do?” greetings and genuine, sweet goodbyes.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 1pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a graveside service to be conducted at 2pm at Mount Hebron Cemetery.
