Robert Baldwin Hooten, 74, passed away unexpectedly while away from home on November 15, 2020.
Bobby was born on June 4, 1946 in Norfolk, VA to the late William Henry and Elizabeth Hopkins Hooten, He is survived by his wife; Lennie, daughter; Melanie (Parish), son; Jonathan, his beloved granddaughters; Yakira, Adaira, and Joanna, as well as a sister; Martha Messersmith (David), and half-brother Bill. He is preceded in death by his brother; Billy.
Bobby was a proud vet having served in Vietnam while in the Air Force. He worked for many years at Rich’s Bakery Co. in Winchester, Hermes Abrasives in Va. Beach, and until his death with VBCPS as a Security Assistant at both Windsor Oaks and Fairfield Elem. Schools where he greeted his special friends, the children, every day. But, Bobby will best be remembered for his work as “the big man in red” every holiday season. It was truly the highlight of his life, and he looked forward to seeing each child grow from year to year and to meet new ones as well.
Bobby was a dedicated member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles at his home Aerie #3204 where he served in many offices up to Worthy President, and on a State level where he was a Past State Worthy President and a member of the Virginia Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge #169 and #10 where he held many offices including Grand Chancellor.
In light of Covid restrictions, a remembrance of life ceremony will be held at a later date to be announced with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to a charity for Diabetes or Kidney research.
