Robert Berkley Martin, 91, of Stephens City, Virginia, died March 19, 2014, in his home.
Mr. Martin was born in 1923, in Washington D.C., the son of the late Rodney Martin and Rachel Martin-Posey. He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II. Robert served as a Congressional Page. Throughout his lifetime he was employed in many various positions including a farmer, owner and operator of a laundry mat and dry cleaning services, upholstery business and ultimately a bus driver for handicapped children. He will be remembered for his love of his family, his church where he served as a branch president as well as his love of horses and the water.
Mr. Martin married Ruth Chatterton on April 2, 1952 in Miami, Florida. Later in 1963 Robert and Ruth were sealed for time and all eternity.
Surviving with his wife are three daughters, Sheryl Lewis, and husband Charles, of Stephens City, Virginia, Wendy Dove, and husband Robert, of Winchester, Virginia, and Patricia Ann Bosley, and husband Marc, of Baltimore, Maryland; three sons, Scott Martin of Oregon, Frank Martin, and wife Vicki, of Lake Wales, Florida, James Monroe Martin, and wife Kathleen, of Stephens City, Virginia; twenty four foster children, thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 230 Justes Drive, Winchester, Virginia.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 PM on Saturday, March 22, 2014, with Bishop Todd Knecht officiating at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 230 Justes Drive, Winchester, Virginia. Interment will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park.
