Rita Faye Lord, 52, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, August 5, 2016, at Winchester Medical Center.
Ms. Lord was born in 1963, in Kingsport, Tennessee, the daughter of the Brenda F. Lord and the late Billy R. Lord. She graduated from Manassas Park High School. She worked as a dispatcher for Fairfax County Government. She enjoyed river tubing, the beach and building puzzles. She loved spending time with her dog, Jake.
Ms. Lord is survived by her daughter, Heather N. Harris; grandchild, Raelynn F. Harris; brother-in-law, Mark Grove; sister, Sharon M. Brown (Brian); brother, Michael W. Lord; dog, Jake; and by many nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Lynn Grove.
Rita’s family would like to Thank Grandma Sue, Cindy and Dr. Brandon for all of the love, care and compassion they have shown throughout the past year.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at 12:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Pastor Mike Mayton officiating. Interment will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park Cemetery.
In memory of Rita, grab a tube and head to the Shenandoah River, build a puzzle, love your dog, but most importantly, never stop smiling and doing what you love.

Well, I don't know what to say... Aunt Rita was Aunt Rita .. She always said what was on her mind if u wanted to hear it or not. If u asked her for it she gave it to you. When I was little I couldn't wait for her to come spend long weekends at the house then as I got older I couldn't wait for my mom to go spend long weekends at her house lol.. She worked hard so she could play hard, always loved spending time at the beach and it was def fun after a few drinks and hearing the stories of the Delmarva Pennisula Fox Squirrel. Haha.. It never got old. I will never forget our talks and the advice that she gave me, she was def always there when I needed a shoulder to cry on even when she didn't agree with what I was crying about. This last year was def a hard one but I will cherish the times that we did have and those are the memories that I will hold on to. and now that u are reunited with my mom I'm sure that Heather and I have some interesting and mysterious and probably quite funny "payback" hauntings to look forward to. I love u ? Rita with all of my heart, I always have and I always will... Xoxoxo

As my wife's best friend, and I hope friend of mine, Rita always had her friend's back, spoiled the kids, and could always make us laugh. Rita..I will never forget our ski trip with the kids and the stay at the lodge that night! Whenever I have a shot(or 3?) of tequila, I will have another in your memory... Sorry I didn't get to see you after my extended trip.... But look forward to meeting again in a much better place!

Rita, you and Lynn weren't just Sharon's big sisters....you were OUR big sisters! If it hadn't been for you schlepping me back and forth just about every other weekend after we moved, I don't know what would have become of Sharon and I. I remember you doing my hair - you always wanted to color it, or cut it, or PERM IT!! I remember you letting me drive your car...probably not the smartest thing you ever did! LOL I love you and I know you are resting easy now with Lynn and your daddy. Until we meet again...
