Patty Harrison left a message on August 20, 2014:
I met Mr. Smith April 19, 2011, when my husband Doug was admitted to the VA Medical Hospital. Even though he could not speak clearly he knew I was Doug's wife and he would motion to me where Doug was if I couldn't find him when I came to visit. My husband was there for almost 2 years, having passed away March 20, 2013. I saw Mr. Smith often because I came during mealtimes to help feed my husband. He always knew me to the best of his ability and it was a joy to see his face light up. When his wife came to visit I was so inspired to see them together. When she would leave he would stand at the window waiting to see her leave. I just saw Mr. Smith last Tuesday, as I am now a volunteer on the ward my husband had lived. Life has many unanswered questions as we struggle to figure the "whys". But I do know that the time Mr. Smith and my husband had at the VA they were treated with respect for having served their country. They were always soldiers and a causality of war. May Mr. Smith finally rest in peace. My deepest sympathy to you Mrs. Smith and your family. I know first hand that every family member has been touched by this illness. Please know I will miss seeing Mr. Smith. Draw near to our blessed Savior at this time of loss, for he knows our every need. God bless, Patty
