Richard Lee Boxwell, Jr., 91, of Winchester, VA, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Spring Arbor of Winchester.

Dick was born in 1932 in Winchester, VA, the son of the late Richard Lee Boxwell and Anna Mariah Pitzer. He was a graduate of Southwestern University in Washington D.C. where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration. He retired as President of Zeropak Company. Dick served our country during the Korean War in the United States Navy. He was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester. Dick was a member of the Exchange Club, Moose Club, Esquire Club, and the Shenandoah Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association. He was former treasurer of Braddock Street UMC and was a 30+ year member of the church choir. Dick was an avid golfer as well as former president of the Winchester Country Club.

He married Patricia Ebert on October 9, 1954, in Winchester. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2023.

Dick is survived by his daughters, Laura Lofton (Marcus Lemasters) of Chincoteague, VA, Ellen Laramore (David) of Thurmont, MD; sons, Richard Boxwell, III (Tammy) of Winchester, VA, Christopher Boxwell of Clear Brook, VA; grandchildren, Sean Lofton of Stephenson, VA, Matthew Lofton of Winchester, VA, Corey Boxwell of Stephenson, VA, Morgan Hinkle of Clear Brook, VA, Benjamin Boxwell of Martinsburg, WV, Joshua Laramore of Virginia Beach, VA, Peyton Laramore of Abingdon, MD and Madigan Laramore of Thurmont, MD; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, Dick is preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor “Peggy” McInturff.

A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Services will be held for Dick on Friday, March 29, 2024 at 1:30pm at Braddock Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Kirk Nave officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601, or to Braddock Street United Methodist Church at 115 Wolfe Street, Winchester, VA 22601.

Every time Dick came in to Kern Motor Co. he brought that big smile and that big voice. He wasn't a customer he was a friend! knowing Pat and Dick was a bright spot whenever they visited and they are surely missed. Dick always added fun no matter the circumstances whenever we talked. Dick Boxwell was a "great" organizer for Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 313 Fund Raising. He was able to get the three Walmart Stores to allow us to collect donations at their front doors. He also had a difficult time insuring some of us showed up on time (especially me since I and to come from Ashburn from work) to man the tables to collection donations made to our KWVA Chapter. It was a great time to get to know other chapter members as well as speaking to many individuals and their families about their relatives serving in the Military. It as was a great "recruiting" opportunity for our chapter. We will all "miss" him and his stories. I was told he was one of our "founding" chapter member.

The staff of BSUMC wishes to extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Richard Boxwell. We grieve with you over the loss of Dick. May the Lord bless you and keep you near to Him during these difficult days and the ones ahead. May He bless you with a peace that passes all human understanding. May He heal your hurting hearts. Butch was Co-Captain and my team mate on Handley’s 1949 Championship football team. A great leader. Always positive. H e was a strong runner and always got us the tough yards we needed to win 10 games. Quite a guy, An American Original.
