Richard L. “Dick” Nesselrodt

Richard Lawrence Nesselrodt, 80, of Frederick County, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 10, 2011, in a local nursing facility.
Mr. Nesselrodt was born in 1930, in Frederick County, Virginia, the son of the late James Clark and Pamma Etta Nesselrodt. He retired from Frederick County School System where he served as a Security Guard and previously worked for H.N. Funkhouser and Polly’s Cab. He is a member of Calvary Church of the Brethren. He sang bass in the Senior Choir, and the Mixed Quartet and was dedicated to the Disaster Relief Program of the Shenandoah District. Mr. Nesselrodt was also President of Big Horn Hunt Club and donated numerous gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.
Mr. Nesselrodt was a graduate of Gore High School, Class of 1950, where he was a member of the Gore Baseball Team. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Navy.
He married Minnie Russell on June 1, 1952, in Frederick County, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife of 58 years are his children, Sharon Lynn Martin and her husband, Wyatt, of Brucetown, Virginia; Richard Lane Nesselrodt and wife, Melanie, of Greenspring, Virginia, Lawrence Keith Nesselrodt of Frederick County, Virginia; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, sister, Iva E. Forshee of Nokesville, Virginia; brother, Ernest L. Nesselrodt of Winchester, Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews.
One daughter, Denise Kay Powell; daughter-in-law, Vivian Nesselrodt ; four brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday at Calvary Church of the Brethren with Pastor Clarence Davis and Reverend J. Floyd Wine officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia, with Military Honors accorded by VFW Post 2123.
Pallbearers will be Wyatt Martin, Jimmy Brown and grandsons, Matthew B. Ritter, Joshua L. Powell, Ethan J. Nesselrodt, Travis L. Powell, Marvin Ashby, Jr. and Jedadiah C. Ashby.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
