Richard Francis Beall, 91, died peacefully Thursday May 10, 2012 at Greenfield Senior Living in Berryville, Virginia.

Richard was born in 1920 in Washington, D.C., the son of the late Louis C. and Olive F. Beall. Prior to his retirement, he was a mechanic for the Washington, D.C. Transit System and a Floor Supervisor for Giant Food in Queens Chapel, Maryland. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, and a former member of St. Camillus Catholic Church in Silver Spring, MD. A veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving as an Airplane Crew Chief during the China Air Offensive in World War II.

Richard married Elsie Catherine Walker on August 24, 1964 in Silver Spring, MD at the St. Camillus Catholic Church. Richard and Elsie enjoyed traveling the American West and exploring its many National Parks. After retirement, they moved to Lake Holiday Estates in Cross Junction, Virginia, where they enjoyed the mountains and lake surrounding their beautiful home.

Survivors include his wife Elsie, daughter Janice Wealand and husband Thomas, of Sterling, VA; son James Hughes and wife Dee, of Gibsonia, PA; four grandchildren, Bethany, Robert, Daniel and Megan, and sisters-in-law Charlotte Beall of Rockville, MD and Victoria Beall of Lansing, KS.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved sister Virginia, and his four brothers, James, Louis Jr., John, and Michael.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 17 at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Military honors will be presented by VFW Post 2123. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. Refreshments will be offered at the conclusion of the service.
