Richard Edmund Watson, 85 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Commonwealth Assisted Living in Front Royal, VA with his children by his side.
Dick was born in 1939 in Jeannette, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Willis and Marie Watson. He was a high school graduate who served our country in the United States Army. He saw many tours of duty while serving his country. While in England he worked at the United States Embassy where he served on the Honor Guard at the funeral for the US Ambassador to the United Nations. Dick went on to a distinguished career at the CIA, retiring as a Mission Director after 33 years. He was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church. Dick enjoyed playing golf, coin collecting, spending time with his loving family, and was a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamela J. Wolfrey (Michael) of Winchester, VA, son, Steven S. Watson (Debra) of Colorado Springs, CO, grandchildren, Tyler A. Wolfrey and Carly J. Wolfrey both of Winchester, VA and Lindsay N. Kotal of Castle Rock, CO and Brooke K. Fraser of Colorado Springs, CO, great-grandchildren, Walker R. Kotal and Wyatt J. Kotal; sisters, Jennifer Gioia, Phyllis Joseph, Cindy Carasia and brothers, John Watson and Gary Watson.
Dick is preceded in death by his loving first wife Phyllis Jean “Jeanie” Watson and his second wife Hope Foster Watson. He also had several brothers and sisters that preceded him as well; Judy Perino, Sharon Smuch, Don Watson, and Bob Watson.
A visitation will be held for Dick on Friday, January 10, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. A service will be conducted on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 1pm at Macedonia United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Keith Ritchie will officiate.
