Richard Eugene Turner
Mr. Richard Eugene Turner, 69, of Frederick County, VA died on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at his residence.
Mr. Turner was born on October 9, 1946, in Springfield, WV, the son of the late Joe and Rosaline Turner. Richard was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a Chief Warrant Officer with the United States Government/Navy, retiring after 23 years of service. He was of the Catholic faith.
He was an avid train collector, collecting trains since the age of nine. He loved fishing and spent many years in Springfield along the river banks when not working. When not able to fish any longer, his passion was watching old movies and playing with his trains.
His wife, Carsie Sue Middleton, whom he married on February 19 1970, preceded him in death on March 18, 2011.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary Virginia Snapp (Joe) of Frederick County, VA and Lenora Ann Crim (Gary) of Clarke County, VA. One brother, Bernard Turner is deceased. He is also survived by a nephew, Joey Turner who resided with him and he loved as his own son. He also leaves behind his beloved dachshund, Stormy and several nieces and nephews.
Richard was well known for his quick wit, jokes and a never-ending sense of humor. He continued to joke until the very last day.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Omps Funeral Home – Amherst Chapel, with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 AM with Pastor Penny Wilson officiating.
Interment will be in Detrick Cemetery, Fort Valley, VA.
Pallbearers will be Joey Turner, Joe Snapp, Levi Snapp, Gary Crim, Jon Crim and Ronald Hott.
