Richard C. Murphy, Sr.
Richard C. Murphy, Sr., 76, of Winchester, VA, died Friday, November 21, 2014 at his residence surrounded by family.
Mr. Murphy was born in 1938 in Norfolk, VA, the son of the late Dana A. and Rosella C. Murphy. He was a graduate of Norfolk Catholic High School, Class of 1956 and received a BS in Civil Engineering from Virginia Military Institute, graduating in 1960. Mr. Murphy was a veteran having served in the United States Army. He retired as a Mechanical Engineer from Dresser-Rand after 39 years of dedicated service. Mr. Murphy was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Murphy married Mary Anne Wrigley on June 18, 1960 in Norfolk, VA.
Surviving with his wife of 54 years are son, Richard C. (Patty) Murphy, Jr., Ashburn, Virginia; daughters, Susan E. Murphy, Winchester, Virginia, Catherine R. Murphy, Winchester, Virginia, Cynthia M. Murphy, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Kevin and Michael Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by a brother, Dana A. Murphy, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 – 8 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 AM on Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Interment will be private at a later date.
The family will have a reception of food and fellowship following Mass at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
