Richard “Dick” B. Wiltshire Jr., 79, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Westminster Canterbury, Winchester with family by his side. He was born February 19, 1944, at Winchester Memorial Hospital the son of the late Richard B. Wiltshire Sr. and Margaret (Lowe) Wiltshire. He grew up in Upperville, Virginia where his family operated Wiltshire Funeral Home. His experiences with this family business shaped his future life working with the public as a career banker and as a volunteer in the communities he lived.
Dick graduated from Marshall High School in Fauquier County and then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond. During the Vietnam Era he joined the Winchester Army National Guard. He began his career in banking as a bank examiner for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. He later moved to Culpeper, VA to work for Second National Bank where he advanced to become President. In 1989 he moved to Winchester after accepting a position at F&M Bank (Truist) as an Executive Vice President where he worked until his retirement in 2010.
He was a member of the Culpeper and Winchester Rotary Clubs for over 45 years where he was a multiple Paul Harris Fellow. Dick was Past Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Culpeper Memorial Hospital and was always very involved in helping people and organizations in the communities in which he lived.
He married Ann H. Rooney on November 28, 1970, in Middleburg, VA after meeting in a bank and they have enjoyed over 53 years of marriage together.
In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by two daughters, Gennifer Rapp (Bryan) and Kattie Lawrence (Eric), four grandchildren: Blakely and Natalie Lawrence and Preston and Spencer Rapp, and his sister Carolyn Wilson.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his niece Margaret Beth Wilson and his brother-in-law James Wilson.
Arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. The family will have a visitation on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 5-7 pm and the funeral service on Friday, January 12, 2024, at 11 am with a reception to follow.
