We are saddened to hear about Admiral Marsh's passing. He and Mrs. Marsh had a large and positive impact on our lives, even though we only met them in person twice. In 2010 I contacted Admiral Marsh to learn about the Olmsted Scholar Program, where he served on the leadership team. Over the next several years he answered my questions and mentored me to the point that I was accepted for the Class of 2014. Our time in the program was one of the most amazing of our lives, and led us to where we are today. We always appreciated how generous he was with his time and mentorship, and always enjoyed reading all the adventures the Admiral and Mrs. Marsh continued on through their retirement. Thank you so much... Fair Winds and Following Seas, Admiral!
Harold A. Laurence, IV, PHD left a message on November 21, 2025:
I just learned that Larry Marsh is present with the Lord. During my naval career I worked for Admiral Marsh two times. The first time in 1983 as a new Ensign in NMPC-421. Seven years later I served under him when he was the Commanding Officer of Submarine Group NINE. Larry Marsh was the only Admiral that I served under who openly spoke of his Christian faith. I wrote him a letter asking for career advice in 1995. Not only did I receive a three-page handwritten letter with a thoughtful reply, but he also gave me his personal home phone number to call if I had questions. It is a rare officer so willing to extend a helping hand to subordinates many grades beneath his own. He will be sorely missed. Rest your oars Shipmate, we have the watch. Harold A. Laurence, IV, LCDR, USN, Ret.

The apostle Paul wrote to Timothy, “But you have followed me doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, long suffering love, perseverance,” 2 Timothy 3:10. Larry has given me, and many others, an exemplary life to follow. So grateful for the impact he has had in my life and ministry.

ADM Marsh was one of the finest gentlemen I have had the pleasure to meet in my 86 years of living. The simple things like, having a meal or seated at a Little League baseball game, he was a pleasure to be with. I would have been privileged to have served under him, especially on submarine. Fair seas and following winds, SIR. Bill Reasner SN (SS) USS CORPORAL SS346 Past Base Commander Williamsport Base USSI

Our shipmate Larry is the true All-America guy. Not just above-average in everything, but beyond above-averaqe. From the start we have admired his brain power, industry, athleticism, humility, and teamwork. A man for all seasons, and one we look to when seeking a model. The Lord likely has reserved a special place for our dear friend. Tom Robertson, '63

Admiral Marsh was the consummate professional Naval Officer, Christian man and great listener. He’s leadership by example is something to emulate. God Bless him and his family. He will be greatly missed.

I am sad that I will not be able to attend the service. Ironically I will be teaching Powerplant Design to prospective Navy nuclear power officers at VMI during that time. I hope to have half of the positive influence on this world that RADM Marsh had.

David Lemmeyer left a message on November 13, 2025:
Admiral Marsh was much more to our family than simply a superior that my wife, Debbie, worked for at PERS-6 at end or our careers. The Admiral and Barb, became a part of our family - we frequently got together for social nights out for dinner, weekend runs from the Pentagon to various points in DC metro area, and attended Navy sporting events. The photo is when we attended the Navy vs Ohio State game at Ravens stadium! The Marshes attended our children's graduations and even some of our son's sporting events. They were and are a part of our family. Our prayers go with the Admiral to look over us from heaven and for his continued love of Barb and all those who lives they both touched. Fair Winds and Following Seas, Admiral!

i knew Larry through our men's bible study and his leadership in the Lake Frederick veteran's group. He was a true patriot and devout Christian and touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

I never had the pleasure of sailing with Admiral Marsh. I'm a Plankowner on Will Rogers prior to him. Just knowing him with his activity in the WR Association immediately tells me how he would have been to work for. He is a true friend. How many other Admirals do you know by their first name? He will surely be missed. God Bless until we meet again.

Tracy Johnston left a message on November 9, 2025:
I met Mr. and Mrs. Marsh in 2016. From the beginning, it was obvious that they were both very special people. When I found out he was a retired Admiral, I was pleasantly surpised. My preconceived notion was that those who gain that level in the Military typically let you know who is in charge from the beginning. This was the opposite of Mr. Marsh. He was softspoken, kind and always asking about what was going on with me and my sons out of genuine interest. You could tell he was extremely smart and he never forgot any of the seemingly small details I shared with him. I do not like to think of a world without Mr. Marsh in it, but I also know that all of the beauty and integrity he shared with people who knew him still ripples out in the world. That is a great comfort. My love and prayers to Mrs. Marsh, his beautiful steadfast partner, and to all of his blood and military family. Warmly, Tracy Johnston MD

Larry was like the big brother I never had! He was a special person in my life and I will miss his smile and his positive energy. I am trying to live my life as he lived his, a gentle, kind Christian. He was a wonderful example of how we all should be! I was honored to have him walk me down the aisle.
