Raymond Richard “Ray” Long
Mr. Raymond Richard “Ray” Long, 77, of Winchester, Virginia, died Thursday, June 2, 2011 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Long was born in 1933 in Cosgrove, Iowa, the son of the late Frank and Hilda Long. He retired after 30 years of employment as an Analyst with the Central Intelligence Agency. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. He served as an usher at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church. He was also active with Little League in Chantilly. He enjoyed hunting and woodworking and was active in his community and civil duties.
He was a graduate of the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and served in the United States Army.
He married Lois Case Long on August 4, 1962, in Falls Church, Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of Winchester, one son, Richard Wayne Long, and his wife, Allyn, of Warrenton, Virginia, two daughters, Deborah Long Gawrylowicz and her husband, David, of West Chester, PA, Mary Beth Pichon and her husband, Mark, of Jamestown, NC, and a brother, Paul Long and his wife, Cleo, of Collierville, TN. A brother, Francis Long is deceased. Surviving also are grandchildren Taylor Long, Claire Long, Andrew Long, Julie Gawrylowicz , William Gawrylowicz, Grace Gawrylowicz , Hunter Pichon, and Kyle Pichon. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday, at 10:00 A.M., June 7, 2011, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with Father Stanley Krempa officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Omps Funeral Home – Amherst Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 on Monday, June 6, 2011.
