Raymond Emanuel Nordberg died peacefully at home on Sept 6, 2024
Raymond was born Aug 11, 1936, in Dover NJ.
Ray loved the outdoors and spent many weekends hunting and fishing with his father, uncles, and cousins. He ran track at Dover High School and was a NJ State Champion for the 800 meter in 1954. He spent 4 years in the Army and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant First Class.
He was a bricklayer and stonemason and a member of the BAC his entire career.
In his retirement, Ray taught a stonemason class to journeymen in the BAC. One of his students went on to compete in a National competition in Washington DC with Ray looking on proudly.
Ray could tell you what any early American antique was worth, and exactly how much value was lost by an amateur restoration job, or an over aggressive cleaning.
In 2020 he moved to Virginia with his wife Diane, and enjoyed his last years watching the birds, cows, and lambs on the farm across the street. His daily journal entries made notes of every animal that visited his yard that day.
He said many times in his last years “I’ve lived a good life”, and after saying that, he spoke of the joy that would come from being greeted in heaven by his mother Alice A. (Peterson) Nordberg, father Ernest Raymond Nordberg and brother Donald Ernest Nordberg, who all predeceased him.
He is survived by his wife Diane Martha (Buchanan) Nordberg, his four children, Tamara Nordberg LoPresti, of Winchester, VA, Laura Ann Nordberg of Lynchburg, VA, Jean Diane Nordberg of Chatham, NJ and John Emmanuel Nordberg of NYC, NY; his sister, Joan Esther Nordberg Johnson (Warner); 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Spring.
