Was born on July 25, 1939 in Providence, RI, to Anthony and Regina Johnson. He died July 27, 2015 at Winchester Medical Center. A graduate of N. Providence H.S. in N. Providence, RI, he attended gunsmith school in Pittsburgh, PA. Ray served with the U.S. Army, Ordinance Division, stationed at Fort Bragg, NC.
In his youth he enjoyed hunting, fly fishing and nature in general. Among his interests were reading, gardening and bird watching. He was an avid life-long car racing enthusiast including sports car, Formula I and 24 hour endurance racing. One of his most enjoyable endeavors was being crew chief for Team OBS. They participated in races throughout the U.S. and Canada.
According to the deceased, his “Magnum Opus” was driving “The Tail of the Dragon”, Deals Gap, NC, September 2014. Ray was outgoing in nature, enjoyed life to its fullest and kept his sense of humor to the end.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Daunais; daughters, Kimberly and Jane and grandchildren, Sebastiene, Teagan and Alexander.
All services will be private with a memorial gathering at Mt. Greylock in Massachusetts at a future date.
