RAY EDWIN BOYCE
Mr. Ray Edwin Boyce, 93, of Winchester, died Monday, January 11, 2010 at Blue Ridge Hospice.
Mr. Boyce was born in Frederick County, Virginia, on August 24, 1916, the son of the late Dora M. and Rosella V. Boyce. He was the Corporate Vice President for Shade Equipment Company, Inc., where he had been employed for over 50 years. He was formerly the Director, Vice President and President of Mar-Del-VA Farm & Power Equipment Association. Mr. Boyce was also a member of the National Truck Equipment Association, and had formerly been Director of the Truck Body and Equipment Association.
He was a lifetime member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church where he was Finance Committee Chairman and Past Chairman of the Administrative Council. He was a Charter Member and Past President of Gainesboro United Methodist Men.
He was also a Charter Member, former Director, Vice President, and President
of Gainesboro Fire Company. In addition, he was a Charter Member of the Gainesboro Ruritan Club. Mr. Boyce was past Chairman of the Frederick County School Board.
Mr. Boyce married Mary Unger in Hagerstown, MD on June 1, 1935. She preceded him in death on November 20, 1991.
He is survived by daughters, Cynthia Raye Boyce North and husband, Larry B. North of Stephens City, and Donna Gaye Boyce Forrester of Winchester; a grandchild, Lauren Raye North DiSalvo and husband, Josh. One grandchild, Ryan Noble North and three brothers Wilbur “Dick” Boyce, Garland Boyce, Sr., and Maynard Boyce, Sr., preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted on Friday at 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home – Amherst Chapel with Rev. Daniel Spaugh officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hebron Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be C. Kelly Lockhart, Thomas Jackson, Charles Brumback, Donald Peacock, Russell Knupp, Frank Bishop, Jr., Johnny Boggess, and Scott Deeter.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home – Amherst Chapel.
