Ralph Nathaniel Shockey, Jr., age 77, passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 5, 2026, at Frederick Health Hospital, Frederick, MD, due to a long and valiant battle with Parkinsons. He was born October 2, 1948, in Winchester Memorial Hospital in Winchester VA to the late Ralph Nathaniel Shockey, Sr and Marie Feltner Shockey.

Ralph graduated from Frederick High School in 1966 and attended Towson State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education (History). He taught at Saint John’s Elementary in Frederick, MD for a short period before joining the National Guard. Ralph went on to work at several different fast food restaurants, which he really like doing. Later on, he worked for Community Living Inc. as the Head of Transportation for 15 years and took pride in working with the disabled and those in the AA Program. He had a strong work ethic which will remain an inspiration to all those who knew him.

Ralph proudly served in the Pennsylvania and Maryland National Guard for 12 years and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Later in life, one of his greatest enjoyments was collecting old tools and antiques, refurbishing them and reselling his “finds” at flea markets.

Ralph was Methodist by faith. He was extremely loyal to his country and family. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his two granddaughters, Mikayla and Annabelle.

He is survived by his four sons, Eric Shockey, Brian Shockey, William Shockey (Vanesa), and Steven Shockey (Sa Skia), his older brother David Fremont Shockey (Donna), plus six grandchildren; Mikayla, Annabelle, Alex, Steven, Nathan, and Anissa, two nieces Tonya Blanchford and Tiffany Futrell and several cousins.

Ralph’s loss is deeply felt by his family and those who knew him. His memory will continue to inspire those who loved him.

Ralph’s wishes to be cremated are being honored. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the Amherst Chapel, Omps Funeral Home, Winchester, VA, July 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Shockey and Luttrell Memorial Chapel in Shockeysville, VA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to any Parkinsons charity, Tunnel to Towers, or any Veterans organization, honoring Ralph’s legacy of service to his country.
