Phyllis O’Hara Duesing Obituary
Phyllis O’Hara Duesing, age 72, of Winchester, Virginia died on May 23, 2013 at the Winchester Medical Center. She was born in 1940 in Youngstown, Ohio, an only child of Martha and William K. O’Hara. She is survived by her husband, Richard W. Duesing of 52 years, by her daughter, Marie Lang and husband, Christopher Lang of Wake Forest, NC, a son, Kenneth Duesing and his wife, Karla Seckinger of Merrimack, NH, a daughter-in-law, Lynne Goodwin of Los Alamos, NM, two grandchildren, Natalie and Matthew Lang, and a son, Richard W. Duesing Jr., who preceded her in death in 1991.
Phyllis was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church all her life. She was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church and served in many volunteer positions there. She was a LPN in Youngstown, OH, and volunteered as a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, basketball coach and in many school activities in Fountain Valley, CA. After moving to Fairfax, VA, she worked as a School Crossing Guard for 21 years for the Fairfax County Police Department; and continued her volunteer activities in the school, community, and church.
The funeral service will take place at Omps Funeral Home, 1600 Amherst St., Winchester, VA 22601 on Tuesday, May 28th at 2:00 PM followed by internment at Mt. Hebron Cemetery. Visitors will be received one hour before the service at Omps Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 4025 King’s Way, Fairfax, VA 22033 on Wednesday, May 29th at 11:00 AM, The Rev. Eugene Kern officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
