Peter E. Crosby

Peter Elwood Crosby, 66, of Winchester, Virginia, died Monday, July 30, 2012, in his home.

Mr. Crosby was born in 1946, in Portland, Maine the son of Olive Williams and the late Thomas Crosby. He was a graduate of John Handley High School, Class of 1964. Mr. Crosby was a Veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1966-1972 achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant.

After his service in the military he worked for the F&M Data Center in Middletown. He operated Computer Utilities Inc. of Winchester and became a partner in Shenandoah Computer. Mr. Crosby worked independently as a computer programming consultant for Rehau Inc. in Leesburg and Charles Zuckerman & Sons. In addition he operated the Racquets Plus Pro Shop and was the racquetball pro at the Downtown Athletic Club and founded and published the Dealers Lot Magazine. Later he purchased the Winchester Billiard Center on the Downtown Mall, remodeling it and renaming it Mustang Billiards, it was later sold to Brewbaker’s Restaurant.

Mr. Crosby was a Mustang enthusiast who restored many cars and spent the last few years of his life pursuing his passion of racing and high performance driving. He raced professionally in the Ford Racing Series: the Mustang Challenge, with his FR500S Mustang #64 racecar.

His memberships include the Shelby American Automobile Club, Kiwanis, Elks, Shenandoah Valley Mustang Club as well as the Sports Car Club of America, the National Auto Sport Association, SVT Owners Association and the SVT Cobra Mustang Club.

He married Allison Kave on June 6, 1974, in Berryville, Virginia.

Surviving with his wife and mother, are two daughters, Julie Crosby of Winchester, Corey Dennis of Front Royal, son, Andrew Crosby of Raleigh North Carolina; brothers, Thomas Crosby, Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Charlotte, North Carolina, Timothy Crosby of Emporia, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A private family memorial service will follow.

Allison, I'm very sorry for your loss... my deepest condolences to you and your family. .What started out as a business relationship between my computer business & the Dealer's Lot, turned into a friendship. My son & I raced karts when I first met Pete & he would always ask about our races and what tracks we ran at & how we did. He loved hearing about it as much as I loved telling the stories. Our friendship continued after Pete sold the Dealer's Lot and whenever I'd drive by his shop & see him there, I'd stop & say hello. One weekend Pete invited me along to help with the race car down at Virginia International Raceway, a track I had raced at many times in karts... what I didn't expect was; to thank me for helping him, he paid for an on-track session and let me drive his FR500S race car on the full-course at VIR! I still have video of that day & it is one I will never forget. He was a really generous guy, he kept his garage neater & more organized than anyone on the planet, and he was a great friend. I'm gonna miss you buddy.
