Peter Charles Viau, age 86, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Born on December 15, 1939, in Norwich, Connecticut, Peter was the beloved son of the late Joseph Alpherie Viau and Lillian (Molleur) Viau.

A veteran of the United States Army, Peter proudly served his country before establishing a long and dedicated career in civil service, eventually retiring from the Department of the Army. In his retired years, Peter was an enthusiastic treasure seeker and along the way discovered that the search is what he treasured most. Peter was a gentle giant of a man and was loved for his warmth, kindness, and devotion to his family.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Ann Hawkins-Viau; his son, Matthew Viau and his wife, Amy; his cherished, daughter-in-law, Kelly Viau; four cherished grandchildren, Lily Viau, Sophie Viau, Jacob Viau, and Addison Viau; his sister, Jackie Viau; and his brothers, Joseph Viau and David Viau.

In addition to his parents, Peter was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Viau, and his brother, Richard Viau.
