Peggy Flowers
Peggy Lee Anderson Flowers, 86, of Winchester, VA, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 in the Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Flowers was born in Winchester in 1924, the daughter of the late Paul E. and Helen H. Anderson. She was a registered nurse and homemaker, and was a member of the Braddock Street United Methodist Church. She was an avid supporter of the National SPCA, and the Disabled Veterans, and was a member of The Thursday Night Bridge Club. She was a member of the Naval Reserves during WWII while in nurses training at Toumey Memorial Hospital in Sumter, SC.
Mrs. Flowers married Henry Stuckey Flowers on December 21, 1946 in Winchester, VA at Braddock Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving with her husband are three daughters, Cynthia Powell and husband, Allen of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, Barbara Racey and husband David of Winchester, and Peggy Lindsay Flowers and partner, Ann C. Warner of Hammond, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Christopher Powell, Brandon Powell, Craig Powell, Barry Powell, Whitney Lynn Racey, D.J. Racey and Justin Henry Bentz, and one brother, Gary E. Anderson and his wife, Lynch, of Englewood, FL, and twelve great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Braddock Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Wm. Anthony Layman and Dr. James A. Hewitt III officiating. A reception will follow the service at the church, and interment will be private.
