Pauline “Polly” Catherine Funkhouser McIntire, 89, died Thursday evening, March 17, 2016, at the Blue Ridge Hospice, Winchester. She was born April 3, 1926, 12 days after the death of her father, in Needmore, Hardy County, W.Va., the youngest child of Charles and Elsie Combs Funkhouser, who died in 1952. After graduating in 1945, from Wardensville High School, she attended Winchester Business College and worked at the Commercial & Savings Bank until 1959. In 1958, she married Vernon Elwood Mclntire, and had one daughter, Marsha K. McIntire Baden.
Mrs. McIntire was a member of First United Methodist Church and enjoyed music, her church, and her family. Petite and always elegant, she would say proudly with a twinkle, “I’m tough. I’m from West Virginia.”
Mrs. McIntire was preceded in death by her eight older siblings: Ruth G. Funkhouser Bott, Raymond G. Funkhouser, Marvin L. Funkhouser, Blair A. Funkhouser, Elva J. Funkhouser Larrick, Ollie J. Funkhouser Dasher, Ermine E. Funkhouser, and Naomi B. Funkhouser Glaize; her many aunts and uncles; and by 119 of her 121 first cousins. Surviving with her husband Elwood and daughter Marsha is her son-in-law, James E. Baden, 26 nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
Officiating with services at the First United Methodist at 2:00 PM, will be The Reverend William M. White, of First United Methodist; The Reverend Anthony Layman, Dist. United Methodist Superintendent (ret.), a nephew of Mrs. McIntire; and The Reverend Webster Gibson, of Christ Episcopal Church. Immediately following the service, Pauline’s inurnment will take place at Christ Episcopal Church Columbarium.
