Paul Thomas Cooney, 42, of Stephens City, Virginia passed away Monday, January 20, 2020, at his home.
Paul was born in 1977 in Fairfax County, VA and was the son of Gary and Jean Cooney and Stephanie and George Price. His early years were highlighted by his drum set, pet snake Bud, and (mis)adventures with friends. Following graduation from W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax, VA, Paul entered his career in construction and was a Construction Superintendent at the time of his death. Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved classic cars, especially his 1969 Camaro. Paul was a loving son, brother and father. His gentle heart and big smile will be missed by those who loved him.
Surviving with his parents and step-parents are sons, James Benjamin Clune of Arizona and Alexander Thomas Cooney of Frederick, MD; sisters, Erica Ervine Treinis (Daniel) of Jericho, VT, Jenni Day (Kevin) of Baltimore, MD, and Jennifer Lowenbach (Benjamin) of Culpeper, VA; brothers, Brian Price (Aby) of Front Royal, VA and Paul Price of Warrenton, VA; lifelong friend Jason McDevitt (Angie) and several nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Paul.
A memorial gathering will be from 3 pm to 5 pm on Saturday, February 1st, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

To the family of Paul . Paul rented a home from me on Blue Mountain with his son Alex for almost a year. I saw Paul as a loving father and a young man that was working for a better life for his son Alex . He so loved Alex and was excited about his new life and home and job in Stevens city. He had big plans for the future for his son and himself. I was deeply saddened when I saw this. One of his neighbors just contacted me today. To his family I am sorry for this great loss. God Bless Alex who always came first for Paul he was truly loved. I had the great pleasure of babysitting Alex one day, what a treasure Janet Wildman and Harry Davis

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Paul. He was a great employee and will be missed. I personally had many talks with Paul about his life and his role of being a Dad. He was a great dad to Alex and was making a great home for him. It was of the upmost importance for him to give Alex a safe and loving home.

Who would have ever imagined such a tragic loss. Our hearts and prayers go out to family and friends as you deal with the roller coaster ride of emotions. I'm so glad we can be there for the remembrance ceremony and for emotional support. We love you guys dearly!!

We were so shocked to hear of Paul’s passing. He was working on a project at our home. He was so easy to talk to and we really liked him. We asked Paul about Alex baking sugar cookies with us. So on December 23rd Alex made cookies with us. Paul thanked us so many times and said Alex had a great time. We enjoyed Alex sharing in his excitement. We don’t know what happened but our hearts go out to the family, friends and especially Alex. We could tell how much he loved his Dad. We were so blessed to know him. Rest In Peace, Paul.

My deepest condolences to everyone who loved Paul. He was a fantastic friend and a great man. He is greatly missed and will always be remembered.

We both met Paul at Jean and Gary's house several times. He was a quiet, polite man who showed love for his son Alex.

You fed the hungry, you gave shelter to those who had none. You let people shower and wash cloths, while they rested on your couch. You gave rides and invited all to enjoy life with you. You were never shallow. You always wanted great things and to be so much more then most people. Life left you in disbelief at times but you never gave up. I know you never wanted to leave us. I know you lived life, and your children, and your family more then anything. You found the strength to live so many times when you had none left, no matter how, because you just wanted more.
