Paul Michael Smoot, 47, of Middletown, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Paul was born on February 24, 1979, in Winchester, Virginia, to John Wilson Smoot and the late Barbara Jean (Funk) Smoot. He grew up in the area and was a graduate of the Sherando High School Class of 1997. He went on to earn his Associate’s Degree in Engineering from Lord Fairfax Community College (now Laurel Ridge Community College). Paul put his talents to work in a successful career as a concrete estimator for Metromont (formerly Shockey’s).
Known affectionately as “Poppy” to those who loved him most, Paul had a quiet variety of passions. In his younger years, he was an avid NASCAR enthusiast, and he maintained a lifelong love for WWE wrestling and the detailed hobby of coin collecting. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family and his loyal canine companion, Kody.
He is survived by his father, John Wilson Smoot of Stephens City, VA; his children, Ash Morgan Smoot (Dylan Huffman) of Stephens City, VA, and Joshua Michael Smoot (Ashley) of Middletown, VA; and his beloved grandchildren, Ava Nicole Smoot and Matthew Michael Smoot; as well as his devoted girlfriend, Sabrina Marple. He is also survived by his brother, Brian Scott Smoot (Sabrina) of Clear Brook, VA; his uncle, Frank Funk of Stephens City, VA; and his former spouse and caregiver, Christina (Conner) Miller.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Jean Smoot, and his brother, John Wilson Smoot, Jr.
A visitation for Paul will be held on Monday, June 15, 2026, from 6pm to 8pm with a service to be conducted the following day, Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 11am all held at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park. Pastor John Lock will officiate.
