Patrick J. Cook (Age 88)
On Sunday, August 17, 2014, in Winchester VA, Patrick “Jack” Cook, loving and caring husband of Edith (Edie) Cook for nearly 66 years; loyal and devoted father of Patrick, Ann, Mike, Chris, Tim, Dennis, and Andy; father-in-law of Corinne and Dominique; beloved grandfather of Jeanne, Caroline, Lauren, Courtney (Will), Abigail, Michael (Keri), Matthew, Marcus; great-grandfather of Kensley. He was a US Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, serving in the Pacific theater.
He worked for the Potomac Electric Power Company for 40 ½ years, part-time for Giant Food for over 30 years, and for several years for AAA in retirement. He attended St. James Catholic School and Church in Falls Church, and Gonzaga College High School in Washington, DC. He was a faithful parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Winchester, VA, for the past 13 years, member of the Knights of Columbus and Loyal Order of the Hibernians, volunteer at Winchester Medical Center, ultimate gentleman, loyal friend, and son of God.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, August 21 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, 1600 Amherst St., Winchester, VA 22601. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Winchester, VA, on Friday, August 22nd at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Friends of “44” Club – Gonzaga College High School (Washington, DC) Attn: Joe Walsh, 9700 Bellevue Dr., Bethesda, MD 20184, or to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Suite 405, Winchester, VA, 22601. A reception will be held immediately following the funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Winchester, VA.
Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
