Patricia Paschall Wince, 81, of Winchester, VA, passed away with her family by her side on February 17, 2025, at her home. The matriarch of her large extended family, she is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Charles E. Wince, and their four children, Jack Matney (Sandy), Laura Costello (Berkley), Teresa Bush (Donnie), and Craig Wince (Kelly); eleven grandchildren, Joshua (Amanda), Jeremiah (Adele), Brooke (Amy), Joseph (Randa), Russell, Chelsea, Hannah, Kylie (Steven), Ryan, Taylor (Kevin) and Ellie; six great-grandchildren Grace, Austin, Brooks, Kai, Cooper and Belle; her brother, Hunter H. Paschall, Jr. (Julia); her extended family in NC; and many dear and close friends.
Pat was born on April 14, 1943, in Petersburg, VA, the daughter of the late Col. Hunter Howard Paschall and Gertrude Anne (Sanderson) Paschall. She graduated at the top of her class at Colonial Heights High School, Class of 1961, and she retired from Safeway in 2001 after more than 30 years of service.
Pat was a truly special person. She was a friend to everybody, and everybody wanted to be her friend. Always supportive and loving, she brought out the best in everyone. She never forgot a birthday or anniversary of any of her friends or family.
We are all so lucky to have known and loved Pat. She poured her love onto others and always made sure whoever she was talking to felt important and special. She connected with people over local DMV sports, especially her beloved Baltimore Orioles, and was eager to share updates on her family members. The pride and love she felt for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids were obvious to everyone she encountered.
Pat loved the beach and spent many years going to Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. So many memories were made in the sun with family and friends. Whether going there for a week with the family or staying a few months of the year with Charlie, South Carolina was a second home.
In recent years, Tuesday became a day that was very special, as it was often a “good” day for Pat. Thus, the “Lunch Bunch” was formed. Just about every week, Pat, Charlie, their kids, and any available friends or family met up in Winchester for lunch. So much laughter and so many stories were shared on these days. It was something to look forward to and always brought joy to Pat.
It is impossible to write down all the things that Pat meant to everyone, and we cannot even begin to estimate the number of lives she touched. She was beautiful, loving, caring, funny, generous, and easily the strongest person. She fought hard to be with us all – against every medical obstacle. Every time she got an unfavorable result from doctors, she continued to fight. She beat the odds so many times we were all hoping for yet another miracle this time. Never complaining and always living her life to the best of her ability, Pat was remarkable and is such an inspiration to us all.
Whether she was sailing to the Caribbean, golfing, watching the Orioles (every game), eating cheeseburgers with Charlie, or spending time with the family, Pat built a life she loved and gave all of us countless reasons to smile.
Patricia, Pat, Patty, Patty cake, Mom, Ma, Grandma, Grammy–forever in our hearts, forever loved.
