Ozzie Porter, 85, of Frederick County, Virginia formerly of Santa Maria, California, died Sunday, October 30, 2016 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Porter was born in 1931 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Dezzie M. and Oscar L. Porter, Sr. Ozzie was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He retired from Lawson Products, a nuts/bolts/fasteners company. At one time Ozzie was a proud owner of a GM car dealership in Staunton, Virginia. Ozzie was a member of Santa Maria Men’s Club in California. He had a gentle soul and loved animals. He enjoyed traveling, watching football, cooking as well as barbecuing, and playing golf, at which he was complimented by Arnold Palmer. No matter what, Ozzie always loved to entertain and his sense of humor was unmatched with his ability to always “pull your leg”. Ozzie was of the Episcopal faith.
Mr. Porter’s wife, Lenora Perry Porter, preceded him in death in 2007. They were married for 31 years.
Surviving are his beloved companion, Linda; daughter, Diana Ruth Porter; sons, David Porter and wife, Ann, Lawrence Porter and stepson, Patrick Evans and wife, Lorraine; brother, Douglas Porter and wife, Virginia; sister-in-law, Chrystl; many loving grandchildren and great granddaughter.
Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his brother, James Porter.
The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. and reception on Saturday, November 12th, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
