Oliver L. “O.L.” Payne

Oliver Linwood “O.L.” Payne, 80, of Stephenson, Virginia, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Payne was born in 1932, in Frogtown, Clarke County, Virginia, the son of the late Tyson L. and Margaret G. Payne. He was the Owner and Operator with his sons, Michael and Gary, of Payne Well Drilling, Inc., established in 1964. Mr. Payne attended Clarke County High School and was a Veteran having served in the United States Air Force from 1948 -1951.

Mr. Payne had a great love for his family and the Virginia mountains.

He married Lola Ruth Benner on December 15, 1952, in Hagerstown, Maryland, by Reverend James Alt.

Surviving with his wife is his daughter, Sharon D. Payne; two sons, Michael Payne and wife, Becky, Gary Payne and wife, Pamela, all of Frederick County, Virignia; six grandchildren, Timothy Miller, whom he raised as his son, Brian Payne and wife, Terri, Eric Payne and wife, Wendy, Adam Payne and wife, Melissa, Sarah Payne Pingley and husband, Brian, Rachael Payne, Hannah Payne; six great grandchildren, Payton Miller, Aden Payne, Tyler Payne, Macey Payne, twins, Ella and Ethan Pingley; and sister, Margaret Payne Rossi of Framingham, Massachusetts.

One daughter, Connie Wetzel; sister, Della Heflin and brother, Charles Eugene Payne preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Yun Kim and Reverend James M. Smith officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, from 3:00-5:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
