Norma St John Hollister Pitts (maiden Norma Dumas) April 29, 1944 – December 16, 2022, left the earth on the morning of December 16, she passed in her home of 37 years. Her passing happened at the end of a powerful ice storm. The power of the storm disconnected her Home completely from power, telephone and all other such terrestrial tethers. The storm felled a great tree right on top of her service pole ripping everything from the house. Such was the power of her life and impact on those she knew and loved.
Norma was a great lover: a lover of life, people, animals, art, food, books, movies and music. She was a patron of the arts and generous philanthropist. Norma gave generously to many causes: Veterans, Law Enforcement, shelters and food banks for both people and animals. Her love and compassion of animals extended to her care and feeding, daily, of the deer, birds, turkey, bears and other wild critters that come upon her home. Many visitors to her home are moved by the deer families who come for an afternoon snack, the humming of birdsong, and the occasional meandering bear or turkey.
This passion for life, art, animals, music et al. was instilled by her, into her children, who carry her legacy and passions forward into their lives and families.
She is survived by her 3 brothers Gary, Phillip and Randall, in as well as her four sons Aaron, Brenton, David, and Geoffry.
A graveside closed casket service will be performed at 11:30 2/3 at Panorama Memorial Gardens 4917 Strasburg Road, Strasburg, Virginia 22657. She will then be interred with the remains of her beloved pooches Guen and Keisha.
