Norma Jean Riley, 85, of Stephens City, VA, passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024, peacefully at her home with her family at her side.
She was born in 1938 in Kankakee, IL, the daughter of the late Donald and Loraine Langhorst. Norma earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Illinois State University and went on to earn her Master’s Degree from James Madison University. She retired as a Guidance Counselor at Handley High School in Winchester. Norma was known as “Cookie Grammy”, she loved baking for family and various charities.
Norma married Russell Howard Riley on December 27, 1958, and he preceded her in death in August of 2011.
She is survived by her son, Scott Riley; daughter, Lauren St. Jacques (Michael); grandchildren, Russell Riley, Rachael St. Jacques, Austin Devart, Annika Devart and Ali Devart; great-grandson, Alexxander Riley and sister, Judy Schneider.
Along with her parents and husband, Norma is preceded in death by her sisters, Peggy Heusing and Nancy Lewke.
A visitation will be held for Norma on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A Celebration of Norma’s Life will be conducted on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11am at Unitarian Universalist Church of the Shenandoah Valley in Stephens City, VA. Officiating will be Rev. Henry Ticknor.
