Nina Elizabeth Omps Hovermale, 101, of Winchester, VA, died May23, 2013.
Mrs. Hovermale was born in 1911 in Bloomery, WV, to Tennie and John Omps. She was a homemaker and well known for her cooking, bounteous vegetable garden, rows of colorful zinnias, and her love for her family. Nina was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for
over 65 years where she attended the Eveready Sunday School class, was a Circle member, and assisted with receptions and church dinners. Nina was also a member of the Winchester Civic League and Virginia Horticulture Society.
Nina married Austin Hovermale on Dec. 26, 1930, in Hagerstown, MD. The couple lived in
Winchester where they raised their three children, Yvonne Lockhart, Richard Hovermale, and Jane Meyers. All members of the immediate family preceded Mrs. Hovermale in death.
Surviving are a granddaughter, Shelly Meyers; three grandsons, Dwayne Meyers, John
Hovermale, and Glenn Hovermale; and four great grandchildren. Two sisters, Hilda Pugh
and Damaris Whitacre and four brothers, Raymond Omps, Hershel Omps, Voyne Omps, and Pascal Omps are also deceased. Mrs. Hovermale enjoyed the company of her many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28th in the Boyd Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church on the Loudoun St. Mall. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Omps Funeral Home.
