Nicholas “Nick” Caruso, Jr., 83, of Lake Frederick, VA passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 19, 2024, at his home.
Nick was born in 1940 in Chicago Heights, IL, son of the late Nicholas and Angeline Caruso. He graduated from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights, IL and was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired after 30 years as a career officer with the Federal Government.
Nick was an avid woodworker and was very passionate about his family history and genealogy. He enjoyed photography, sketching, traveling, and playing music, specifically the accordion, piano, and guitar. In earlier years Nick coached his sons in Little League Baseball and Soccer. Not only was he their sports coach, he was also their mentor and best friend. He was a very modest and humble man that loved his family dearly.
Nick married Sally Ann Einhorn on November 25, 1961 in Chicago Heights, IL.
Surviving with his wife are sons, Anthony Caruso (Patricia) of Bristow, VA, David Caruso (Melinda) of Dallas, TX, and Richard Caruso (Laurie) of Sandy, UT; grandchildren, Kyle Rathjen (Abby) of Royse City, TX, Brandon Caruso of Chantilly, VA, Kaycee Zopp (Curtis) of Goldvein, VA, and Marissa Caruso of Sandy, UT; great grandchildren, Grayson Zopp of Goldvein, VA and Caden Craft of Chantilly, VA.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents and his faithful canine companions, Duke, Moocher, Clancy, and Lily.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be from 4 pm to 6 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, 1600 Amherst Street, Winchester, Virginia.
