Nelwyn M. Coats, 96, a native of Winnfield, Louisiana, living her last days in Front Royal, Virginia, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 in Front Royal after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Coats was born in 1925, the daughter of late F. O. Lattier and Lula Lattier. Known by most as “Nell” or “Pete”, she worked many years in the ready to wear department of Palis Royal and was always ready to help with her infectious smile. Nell will be remembered by her family as a loving mother, wife, and “Nanna” by her granddaughters.

Nell is survived by her son, James P. Coats, Jr. (Andrea); grandchildren, Angelia Coats, Tracie Crossno (Brett); great grandchildren, Jace Garza, Carson Crossno, Camden Crossno; her special friend and wonderful hairdresser Bobbie Jo Whitehead; as well as her nieces, nephews, and friends.

Nell is preceded in death by her parents; husband, James P. Coats, Sr.; five sisters, Edna Fricky, Sadie Smith, Ruth Davis, Lemee Bice and Iver Shows; and her brother Oscar Lattier Jr.

The family would like to thank doctor and staff of Dr. Guna Subedi for their loving care. A special thanks to those who shared their love, support, prayers, and gifts.

All services will be held in Shreveport, Louisiana.

I knew Nell in Methodist Church in Winnfield many years ago. She and a sister led my VBS group one year and I thought she was the greatest. I was so sorry to hear from Missy that Nell had died. My sincere sympathy
