Nellie Frances Sirbaugh DeHaven died peacefully on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living, Winchester, where she had been a resident since June.
Mrs. DeHaven was born April 2, 1915, in Capon Bridge, W. VA., the daughter of Henson R. Sirbaugh and Nettie E. Schaffenaker Sirbaugh. She was a long time member of Burnt Presbyterian Church in Albin, Va. and worked at Zeropack Co. and National Fruit Co. for over 25 years.
Mrs. DeHaven was the widow of John W. DeHaven, who preceded her in death on December 2, 1981. They were married on August 7, 1937, in Kernstown, Virginia.
Surviving are three daughters, Shirley J. Bauserman of Stephens City, Virginia, Barbara K. Hall of Port St. Joe, Florida, and Betty Banning (J.R. Robinson) of New Bern, North Carolina. Grandchildren are Leigh Bauserman of Stephens City, Virginia, Amy Hall of Port St. Joe, Florida, and Matthew Banning of Richmond, Virginia.
She is also survived by a sister, Mary H. McLaughlin (Claude) of Phoenix, Arizona, a brother, James H. Sirbaugh (Marilyn) of Petersburg, Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Nita Sirbaugh and Dorothea Sirbaugh, both of Capon Bridge, West Virginia.
Preceding her in death were; daughter, Joanne F. DeHaven, siblings, Dorothy Keller, Ross, Clarence, Floyd, Elza, Lynn “Buck”, and John Sirbaugh. Also preceding her in death were sons-in-law Stanley Bauserman, James Hall, and Dr. Phil Banning. Also sisters-in-law, Madge Sirbaugh, Beulah Sirbaugh, and Joan Sirbaugh .
In 1985, at the age of 70, Nellie started bowling and bowled the first 13 years without missing a day at Northside Lanes. She came in second place in her age group in 2000 at age 85. She bowled until she was 95 years old and only gave it up then because of arthritis in her knees. She made many new friends during her years bowling and truly loved the sport.
Pallbearers will be Norman Sites, Frankie Triplett, Sonny Crisman, Steve Melester, Loring Waters and Bob Lewis.
Honorary Pallbearer will be John Fincham.
Services will be held at Omps Funeral Home on Amherst Street on Saturday, October 20th at 1:00 PM with Reverend Steven Melester officiating. Interment will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday, October 19th at the funeral home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to Burnt Presbyterian Church Shelter Fund, 168 Burnt Church Rd., Winchester, Va. 22603.
