Christine “Tina” Mary Martin, a beloved mother and grandmother, 65, of Lake Frederick, VA, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Prince William County Hospital in Manassas after battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Tina approached her illness with amazing bravery, humility, and grace, reflecting her spirit in every aspect of her life.
Tina was born November 13th 1958 in Arlington, VA, into a gregarious family of six. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Virginia Sullivan and was the laughter at the table, always eager to share the latest Weekly Reader joke, followed by her infectious laughter. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, Leonardtown, Maryland in 1976 and remained close to her high school classmates even these many years later. Seldom on time, her smile and sense of humor always kept her out of trouble with the nuns. She had a passion for theater and had a natural talent for it, usually taking on a comedic role that showcased her talent.
As a teenager, Tina shared a love of classic films with her dad, a passion that continued throughout her life. She would often convince the family to watch black-and-white movies, eagerly sharing every detail about the actors’ lives, a passion she passed down to her sons as well. Tina loved to travel, always wanting to share those experiences with her children, family, and close friends. Like her mother, she seldom met a stranger and could easily strike up a conversation with anyone.
Most of her professional career was spent as a financial advisor for First Command Financial Planning (and before that USPA & IRA), where she was frequently recognized as a top agent and received numerous awards. Combined she spent nearly 40 years as a top financial advisor for military families and more. It was impossible to go to any First Command event without someone knowing who Agent 2133 was. However, none meant more to her than the heartfelt notes from clients expressing their gratitude for her service.
She was a proud Momma and is survived by her sons, Scott Martin (Kayla) and Paul Martin, and her cherished grandchildren, Sean, Thomas, and Kassidy Martin. Also survived by her sisters, Linda Wharton (John) and Virginia “Ginny” LaRoche (Jay) and brothers, Mark, Brian and Craig Sullivan and many nieces and nephews. We have not just lost a sister, Mom, Grandmother or Aunt, we have lost the person who brought us all together around the dinner table at family gatherings, gracefully sharing her home with all of us. Tina was truly the light in the room, a woman who embodied grace and joy.
A memorial service will be held for Tina on Saturday, November 9, 2024, with visitation from 2:00 – 3:00pm and service at 3pm at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel on Front Royal Pike Winchester, VA. A Celebration of Life will take place on Sunday, November 10th, 1:00 – 3:00 pm at DoubleTree by Hilton Front Royal Blue Ridge Shadows.
